Docmosis MCP with Claude: Generate Invoices, Reports and Letters Automatically

The short answer

Claude works with Docmosis through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that lets Claude securely use other software with permissions your organisation controls. Once connected, Claude can ask Docmosis to fill a template with your data and produce a PDF or Word file, using a sign-in key you approve and can revoke at any time.

What is Docmosis?

Docmosis is a document generation tool. It creates PDF and Word documents from templates that your organisation designs once. Each template has placeholders, called data fields, that are filled automatically with information from your systems. Finance teams, operations managers, HR departments, legal and customer service teams commonly use it to produce reports, invoices, statements and business letters at volume, without copying and pasting by hand.

How Claude connects to Docmosis through MCP

The Model Context Protocol, or MCP, is an open standard that acts like a universal adapter between Claude and other software. It lets Claude use a tool such as Docmosis in a controlled way, reading information and taking actions only within the permissions you set. Claude does not gain access to anything beyond what you allow.

Once connected, Claude can typically list the templates available to your organisation, check which data fields each one needs, and request that a document be generated from a template using the details you supply. Users can make these requests in everyday language, for example asking for a monthly statement for a named client, and Claude prepares the request for Docmosis.

Permissions and approvals keep people in charge. Access uses an API key, which your IT team creates, scopes and can revoke at any time. Consequential steps, such as sending a finished invoice to a customer, can be set to require a person's approval before they run, and every action is recorded in an audit log for review.

What you can automate

  • Monthly client statements

At month end, Claude pulls the list of clients who need a statement and asks Docmosis to generate each one from the statement template. Finance staff review a sample before the batch is released, which saves hours of manual formatting each month.

  • Invoice generation on request

When a sales order is confirmed, Claude gathers the customer name, line items and payment terms, then requests a formatted invoice from Docmosis. The finished PDF is saved to the right folder, ready for a person to check and send.

  • Standard business letters

Customer service and HR teams often send the same letters again and again, such as renewal notices or onboarding confirmations. Claude fills the approved letter template with each person's details, so letters stay consistent in wording and branding.

  • Operational and management reports

Each week, Claude can gather figures for sales, stock levels or service tickets and merge them into a standard report template. Managers receive a consistent Word or PDF document without anyone rebuilding the layout.

  • Bulk document runs

For large batches, such as hundreds of certificates or contract schedules, Claude can prepare the data set and trigger generation in one run. Staff check the exception list, where records with missing fields are flagged for correction.

An end-to-end workflow: Order-to-invoice with approval

TriggerA sales order is marked as confirmed in the CRM.

  1. Claude reads the confirmed order, including customer details, line items and payment terms, from the CRM.

  2. Claude checks that every required invoice field is present and flags any gaps to the finance team.

  3. Claude requests an invoice from the approved Docmosis template, filled with the order data.

  4. The finance lead reviews the generated PDF and approves it in the workflow.

  5. The approved invoice is filed in Microsoft 365 and a copy is attached to the customer record in the CRM.

OutcomeInvoices are issued within the same working day, with fewer keying errors and a complete audit trail linking each invoice to its order.

How we set it up

  1. Free automation audit

We review how documents are produced today and identify the templates and workflows worth automating first. You receive a clear list of priorities with no obligation.

  2. Secure connection

We connect Claude to Docmosis through an MCP server using an API key, set up with least-privilege access so that only the templates and actions you need are available.

  3. Workflow design

We map the full process across Docmosis and your other systems, such as Microsoft 365, CRM, ERP or ticketing, and agree which steps need a person's approval.

  4. Testing with real cases

We test the workflow against past documents and real data, compare the output with what your team produced by hand, and fix any mismatches before go-live.

  5. Launch, monitoring and training

We launch with monitoring and audit logs in place and train your team on reviewing and approving the output. Support continues after launch so the workflow can be refined.

Who benefits

Finance director
Invoices and statements are produced on time and consistently, with an audit trail for every document.
Operations manager
Weekly and monthly reports are generated automatically, freeing staff for analysis rather than formatting.
HR or customer service lead
Standard letters are issued quickly and accurately, with wording kept consistent across the team.
IT head
Access is controlled through a revocable API key with scoped permissions and full logging.

Security and control

  • Access uses an API key with least-privilege scope, so Claude can only use the templates and actions you approve.
  • Consequential actions, such as sending documents to customers, can require a named person's approval before they run.
  • Every generation request and action is recorded in an audit log that your team can review.
  • Keys can be rotated or revoked at any time, and sensitive data can be masked before it reaches the model where your policy requires it.

For teams in the US, UK, India and the Middle East

Organisations in the United States and the United Kingdom can host the connected workflow in a region that matches their data protection obligations. Businesses in India must meet the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and we design the data flow to support those duties. Organisations in the UAE and Saudi Arabia must follow their local data protection laws, so we choose the hosting region for the Claude workflow to meet those requirements. Regional hosting options are agreed during the audit.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Docmosis MCP server do?

The Docmosis MCP server gives Claude a controlled way to use Docmosis. Through it, Claude can look at available templates, check the data fields they need, and request that PDF or Word documents be generated from them. It does not change your templates or access anything outside the permissions you grant.

Is connecting Claude to Docmosis secure?

Security depends on how the connection is configured. We use an API key with least-privilege access, restrict it to the templates and actions needed, and add approval steps for sensitive outputs. Every action is logged, and keys can be revoked immediately if needed. We design and test each setup against your own security requirements.

What can Claude do with Docmosis once it is connected?

Typically, Claude can find templates, check required fields, fill them with data from your systems, and produce finished documents. Users can ask for these in plain language, for example a set of client statements for a given month. The exact actions available depend on the access you approve.

How long does setup take?

A simple single-template connection can often be running within a few days of the audit. More complex workflows that span several systems and need approval steps usually take a few weeks, including testing with real cases and training your team. We confirm the timeline after the free audit.

Which plan or permissions do I need?

You need a Docmosis account that allows API access, and an API key with permissions covering the templates you want to use. Your IT team usually creates the key. Whether your current plan includes API access should be confirmed with Docmosis directly, and we will check this with you during the audit.
